On international Volunteer day – december 05. in 2009. in our Association Stari grad new Volunteer center was founded. It was initiated by volunteers, who attended project activities in Center for newborn, small children and youth, ready to give their time, love and knowledge to children and adult developmentally disabled persons. Nowdays, in our evidence we have over 70 volunteers - people of good will and with big, big heart.

Who is a volunteer? Volunteer, native latin word which denote persone who of one's own accord, individually or in group, performe services to persons who need it, without payment which exceeds necessary costs in performing services. (Wikipedia).

What is volunteerism? Volunteerism is mobilization and engagement of individuals or group who of one's own accord accept to performe services corresponding population, and who are appropriate selected. Volonteerism is based on ideas related to self helping, mutual helping and philantrophy. Most often operation of volunteerism is in religion, human, social as well as non-governmental organization.
“Volunteerism present base of civilisation, it denotes generous people behaviour- pasifism, freedom, equal posibilities, safety and justice for all.” - Universal declaration about volunteerism, agreed by International Board of Directors IAVE (International Association for volunteer activities), on 16. Conference performed in Amsterdam, Holland, january 2001.

ACTIVITIES

Volunteers visiting severe developmental disabled members of our Association and sharing New Year presents

In addition to New year presents, donated by City Municipality Stari grad to our Association users, we engaged several real snow girls "in santa claus role" for visiting and rejoicing members who were disabled by their illness and could not come to socialize. That snow girls are our good volunteers and can you emagine happiness of these children?

The largest number of our volunteers, members of Volunteer center, who were selected and motivated on open competition in our Association, took part in activities placed in Center for protection of newborn, small children and youth during 9 months long project " I Belong To This World Too - natural environment for children developmentall disabilities". Main aim of this project, which is done in cooperation of one intitution and two citizens associations, is that children with developmental disabilities get opportunity to be seen, and to approach natural environment, family and local comunity with the help of all instances (volunteers and other). Volunteers gave them 1 on 1 time, love, care, happiness, joy, stimulation and companionship that they lacked on, since they have no parental care and are living in the institution. Improvement this children shown during their social contacts with volunteers is not just on individual basis, it is the improvement of our society in general...

In our Day center we are opened for volunteers of all kind. Most of the time we have students in practise, interested experts, friendly neighbours who all contribute to realization of diverse activities... At this time we need as much as possible volunteers that will help us realize activities in upcoming Congress in may 2009. So, sign in!
